Hansi Flick insists Barcelona deserved victory over Girona after their latest outing as they hammered their Catalan rivals 4-1.
Hansi Flick is delighted with Barcelona’s impressive start to the season, which has seen them win their first five games following Sunday’s 4-1 win at Girona.
Lamine Yamal scored twice to give Barcelona a first-half lead before Jules Kounde and Pedro Gonzalez Lopez Pedri added another two early in the second half to make it 4-0 until Girona substitute Cristian Stuani pulled one back with 10 minutes remaining.
Despite the visitors being reduce to 10 men after substitute forward Ferran Torres was sent off in the 86th minute, neither side manage to score as Barcelona cruise to a 4-1 win, making it five wins from their opening five games of the season.
‘The season has just started, we played very well, were focus and concentrated in the game, we pressed very well. The first goal was incredible, beautiful. We deserved the win. It was a difficult game, Girona played very well, but we started very well and I think we deserved the win,’ said Flick.
‘We trained very hard, we prepared well for each game. We’ve to go step by step, game by game, but we want to win. We are in a good moment and we have to keep going. We cannot stop. When you start you want to win because it gives you confidence. At the beginning we saw that we were a compact team, we trusted ourselves, we did well. Today we had the chance to score one or two more goals. I am very happy with the way the team play.’
The German coach also spoke about Lamine Yamal’s first goal: ‘We worked on pressing. I’m happy because Lamine scored. He always looks for chances to score but doesn’t finish.’
